The Hollies Newsletter 2015
A lot of exciting things have happened this year at The Hollies, please enjoy this newsletter and get up to date with all the goings on at The Hollies……..
January – March 2015 – after a relatively quiet start to the year, which we all needed to get over the excitement of Christmas, our residents started to enjoy the action packed entertainment schedule once again, which included two singers, bingo and arts and crafts. We had a special event in February for our resident’s families. This was The Hollies Big Winter Quiz! We enjoyed a quiz, curry, bar and lots of fun and games. We managed to raise £500 for the residents fund and everyone enjoyed a great night.
One of our residents, George, made it into the paper in March to celebrate turning 103. The local paper published a fantastic picture of George and his family, which is proudly displayed in the entrance hallway of The Hollies.
April – June 2015 -
We had a busy spring at The Hollies. Trips is in dedicated mini bus started again and we enjoyed outings to Mote Park, Millbrook Garden Centre, and Bluewater. We once again had singers coming in to provide afternoon shows for the residents which everyone thoroughly enjoys. We enjoyed an early start to the summer so the gazebo came out in April so the residents could enjoy our beautiful gardens and the fresh air.
One of the exciting things that commenced in June was the start of the building works, making our already great home even better. Building work was to create an extension on the back of the home which would provide us with a coffee shop, new hair dressing salon, disabled bathroom, visitors toilet, new medication room and shop. Along with two new rooms upstairs. We was all very excited to see the end results and knew the hard work would pay off
July – September 2015 – The summer was a hot one this year and we made the most of it! Every Wednesday in August our residents enjoyed a trip to Herne Bay, we had fish and chips for lunch and an ice cream on the pier! We also enjoyed our regular smaller trips to Bluewater & Millbrook. The building works where ongoing and things where running well and things have started to take shape.
During these months, we received special recognition for our work we do with our work experience students, this was a very proud moment for us as we do try to help the community as much as possible. We also held a Macmillan coffee morning and managed to raise an excellent £155 for the charity.
October – December 2015
As always the months leading up to Christmas are very busy, and 2015 was no exception. We started October with a harvest festival at the local school; our residents enjoyed a show and tea. We hosted our annual Halloween party and this was enjoyed by many residents and relatives! Of course we had our regular singers as extra entertainment but the residents where kept very busy with bingo, crafts, reminiscent sessions, small discos with our new disco machine and much more. We had a special trip to Millbrook where our residents got a sneak peak at all the festive decorations and this put everyone in the festive mood going forward. Our Coffee shop opened late November and has been themed around 60’s/70’s stars of the screen. If you are yet to come and enjoy our coffee shop please do, it’s always open!
Christmas was a very busy time; we had a Christmas jumper day for the staff, a very successful panto “A Christmas in Oz” which even made the local papers! The annual Christmas party happened on the 21st and we had a great turn out. Christmas Day was enjoyed by all, residents, their relatives, and the staff! We look forward to more exciting times ahead….
Thank you for reading our newsletter, we are grateful to your ongoing support throughout 2015 and will look forward to 2016 at The Hollies. The building works are soon to be complete with the new Salon & Shop now open. Please feel free to have a look when you are next in The Hollies.
